Boost Your Storytelling with “The Hero’s Journey”
This two-hour workshop is ideal for executives, business leaders, or organisation heads – anyone who wants to boost their ability to tell the story of their company, department, brand, or even their own personal or professional journey.
The 2-hour workshop takes you through the basics of the so-called “Hero’s Journey” that was popularized by writer Joseph Campbell and later adapted for screenwriting by Christopher Vogler. It helps you to see underlying structures in time-tested, successful storytelling and how you can use these techniques to make your own stories memorable, engaging, and most important of all, meaningful.
The workshop is offered by John-Paul Gomez who draws on his experience as a writer of short stories and satire and his more recent foray into filmmaking and screenwriting.
How to Write Satire: from the Wurst to the Onion and Beyond
This three-hour workshop is ideal for anyone who wants to know how to write news satire in the style of the Luxembourg Wurst, the Onion (USA), Reductress (USA), the Daily Mash (UK), or Waterford Whispers News (IRE). You will learn:
- The fundamentals of news satire, from exaggeration to irony and more
- How to generate ideas about any (any!) given topic
- The secrets to crafting a killer headline
- How to take a headline and turn it into an article or feature
- Tips for pairing written content with photos and other images
- Techniques to create a brand and style
This workshop is offered by John-Paul Gomez, creator of the Luxembourg Wurst, who has been writing satire for more than a decade. He has written nearly 2,000 satirical pieces during that time, some of which have received international coverage. Over the years, he has developed an appreciation of satire not only as a form of art and entertainment, but as a tool to poke fun at powerful institutions and people and draw attention to hypocrisy, ignorance, and hubris.
